Hi All,
I just got back from my trip yeay, my third trip this year :-D. And suddenly i want to write about my opinion about China Mainland as a teaser :p.
There were very interesting journey, a lot of things different in culture, lifestyle, food, transportation, language, etc. Even i am a chinese, it is also hard for me to travel there :p. But here am i, survive and now time for me to write my story huehue.
I will write as fast as i can (i will write in some parts), of course i need time to edit some photo right?
From overall my trip, i will give advises, tips, tricks, and reviews (perhaps it will help you or just for your information :)). And here some points in my head :
PS :
All my comparation is with my country (Indonesia) and in Jakarta.
1. Food
- You should learn how to use chopsticks , yeah you can ask for spoon too :). But never found for fork and knife :p
- Never ask too much about the food/menu and touch the food before you pay. They will scold you for sure if you do that
- A lot of food shops and cheap around us, you just need an extra effort to find it :p. Because it always in small roads or behind the big streets. Just follow the local people with the food plastics or ask them where they buy their food. Or find the way with a lot of people walk, there are must be a lot of food :p
- Find the food shops with the picture, you can choose directly. It is easier :). Or look at some people who eat there, and choose like them. Why? Because the menu always in chinese words :p.
- The taste is different, strange, too salty, and not like the picture :p. So lower your expectation for the first.
- For muslim absolutely you must do an extra effort to find the food or ask people (of course prepare in chinese language), because even you choose chicken the food will contains pork :p. It means you must find muslim food and i can find in some place around me there.
- Drinks usually free just for hot tea/water just look people around you :)
- No chili / sauce :p, if they have. Absolutely the taste will different. (this is serious hehe)
2. Travel
- Make sure all our destination in adress or maps (detail), with the english and chinese words too. When you get lost you need ask people right, and everyone i asked in my trip couldn't read english words :(, you must give them in chinese words.
- Try to find the transportation for your destination in advance, and ask again in your hotel's receptionist for sure. Even they can't speak english well, but you can show the destination you want, and ask them how to go there with your notes.
- Ask again in your ways to some people to confirm the place is correct (of course with chinese words). It will waste your time if you get the wrong way. Don't feel shy or shame, they will not recognize you too :p if you ask something ridiculous or stupid questions. Last time i got wrong MTR (Metro Line) maps with the picture there and got lost hahaha. Another idea just ask their help to write the place you want to go in chinese words :-D
- Buy the ticket from the counter place, don't believe from people with uniforms etc. Because we don't know the truth just make sure you go to counter place and find the ticket price in the boards (of course in chinese words, but sometimes in english words). If in chinese words just follow your hearts to choose hahaha :p
- Keep your wallet in front of you, not on your back pants / bag. My friend told me that if the wallet in your backs, it means ours, but vice versa it is yours :p.
- Don't talk too much with strange people, they ask for money or offer you some products. Even they are look good / bad, you can get insting when the bad things will happen to you right.
- Bring calculator for them to write, or try to understand their language at first. So you know how much exactly you should pay for the food or another stuff. Not everything notes in paper, they usually say it. And absolutely you will blank haha.
- Sometimes in someplace, there is a people will help you, and bring your stuffs in metro line or bus transportation (if that is too heavy / big for you and look like you need a help).
- Taxi in some place such as Hongkong and Macau will charge you for your stuffs inside or in the baggage.
3. Culture
- They like to spit, with the sounds such as "Hoakk...Cuh..".. >.< uncommon voice and strange for me every where -_-'.
- They speak very loud and talk like scream/fight hehe. You must be surprise at the first.
- They are not good in service, no smile, and do everything very fast. And to the point when they talk with the high tone.
- They will give their chair in public transportation for child/senior people. Yeah they have some good points in here :-D
- Prepare for the toilet, hehe dirty (because of the spit) and bad smelly. But it much better rather than woman toilet :p. They are too lazy to splash the water after poop or pee -_-'
- Don't surprise the people (man) can change the clothes not in the fitting room. They can half naked (just for the top) in every where. It seems uncommon to try the clothes with double clothes we wear.
- Bargain more than half price for your stuffs, and don't believe with the price. They will say to you or the good words to you (such as : this is special price, only for you. Maybe it will cheaper in another shops :p). Even they scold you and kick you out from their shops :p, but at least you try to bargain haha (perhaps they can call you back for that price :p)
- For me the people is hard worker, competitive, persistent, and seems they work overtime (do they salary low?). China mainland is very big country, a lot of people from small town/city will come to big place right? so it will crowd every where with chinese people :p
